Risk Selection: Review, rate, underwrite, evaluate, or assess businesses applying for insurance by qualifying accounts, identifying and assessing risks, determining premiums, policy terms, and conditions, obtaining necessary approvals, and creating/presenting proposals to agents/brokers while successfully negotiating deals. Agent/Broker Relationships: Establish, develop, and maintain successful relationships with agents and brokers to facilitate marketing of products and services. Provide stewardship with service partners, including the initial setup of service commitments and regular visits. Brand Development: Cultivate a strong personal brand to build and maintain a long-term, high-quality pipeline with agents and brokers. Portfolio Management: Manage a book of business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying areas for improved growth, profit, and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share with preferred brokers. Documentation: Document files thoroughly to reflect a solid thought process and decision-making, ensuring compliance with state regulations, letters of authority, and underwriting guidelines through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs, and referrals. Leadership: Actively participate as a team member, contributing expertise to fellow underwriters and account analysts, both technically and professionally. Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by generating suggestions, engaging in problem-solving activities, and employing continuous improvement tools to support team efforts. Expert knowledge of insurance products and coverage, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments, and the marketplace. Familiarity with insurance finance and actuarial concepts, loss control/risk engineering, marketing techniques, the regulatory environment, and reinsurance is essential. Underwiring experience in War & Terrorism strongly preferred. Ability to apply underwriting appetites, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, establish and maintain healthy working relationships, and negotiate effectively. A related bachelor's degree and five to ten years of relevant experience are preferred. Actively pursuing professional insurance designations is encouraged.
