Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating individualized nursing care for patients across the continuum of care. Working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members, the RN delivers safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care while promoting positive patient outcomes.

The Registered Nurse practices under the direction of the Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, and Director of Inpatient Nursing Services while supporting the mission, vision, and values of Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center and maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting standards.

Essential Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care.
• Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress and response to treatment.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and accurately.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately using sound clinical judgment.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge planning, and disease prevention.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Delegate and supervise nursing personnel while maintaining accountability for patient care.
• Promote patient safety through adherence to infection prevention practices, medication safety standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Respond effectively during emergency situations utilizing critical thinking and clinical expertise.
• Advocate for patients while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical nursing practice.
• Foster a positive work environment by communicating respectfully and collaborating with coworkers across all departments.
• Participate in continuing education, competency validation, and hospital performance improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with patient care needs throughout the hospital as appropriate within the RN scope of practice.

QualificationsRequired

• Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
• Demonstrated competency in direct patient care.
• Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic medical records.

Required Within Six (6) Months of Hire

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred

• Previous acute care, emergency department, or Critical Access Hospital experience.
• Commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.

Leadership Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse provides clinical leadership through the supervision, guidance, and delegation of patient care activities to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), and other assigned support personnel in accordance with Texas Nursing Practice Act requirements and hospital policy.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Frequently lift, transfer, reposition, and assist patients using proper body mechanics and lifting equipment.
• Bend, stoop, squat, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift.
• Lift or move up to 50 pounds independently and greater weights with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
• Maintain manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills necessary for patient care.
• Possess visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patients, read medical information, and respond to alarms.
• Work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call assignments as required.
• Respond rapidly and effectively during emergency situations.
• Safely work in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
