We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team at Liberty Blume in Bradford (BD4). This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.

As a Payroll Specialist you will take ownership of the payroll accounting function, ensuring all employee payments are processed accurately, on time, and in line with statutory and internal requirements.

You will play a key role in driving efficiency, enhancing confidence in payroll processes, and supporting high-quality service delivery across the organisation.

In addition, you will support payroll governance activities, including testing and approvals, and contribute to the successful delivery of payroll and reward-related system changes. Working closely with the People Systems and Portfolio teams, you will help ensure continuous improvement and seamless collaboration across functions.

What will you be doing?

  • Manage the simulation and processing of payroll accounting interfaces, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and internal policies.
  • Ensure all payroll payments, including credit transfers and emergency CHAPS payments, are processed accurately and on time for employees and pensioners.
  • Validate statutory deductions and ensure all required returns are submitted within deadlines.
  • Provide clear, high-quality payroll guidance and support to managers, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with changes in legislation and internal policies, working with IT and People Systems & Portfolio teams to implement system updates.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll systems, processes, and controls.
  • Collaborate closely with IT and Employee Services (People Systems) teams to deliver, test, and embed system changes and enhancements.
  • Ensure all payroll system updates are fully tested, validated, and approved prior to implementation.

Essential

We tend to look for people with:

  • CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management (or equivalent experience/qualification).
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including tax, National Insurance, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP), salary sacrifice, benefits in kind, and attachment of earnings.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate, timely payroll and management information.
  • Experience managing complex, high-volume payrolls.
  • Good understanding of company pension schemes and payroll interfaces with finance and pensions.
  • Hands-on expertise across payroll operations, including month-end and year-end processes.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

Desirable

  • Awareness of latest trends and best practice in payroll and shared services environments.
  • Understanding of general accounting principles.
  • Experience with company pension schemes and their payroll integration.
  • Flexibility to support international payroll operations where needed.
  • Exposure to process improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma).
  • Experience working in fast-paced, complex, and evolving environments.
