Purpose Statement
The job of Nurse - School Age Care Camp is done for the purpose/s of providing direct nursing care to K-5 students attending the School Age Care Camp; ensuring compliance with health regulations; adapting nursing services to a camp-style environment that includes field trips, water park days, and extended-day care; providing appropriate immediate care for ill or injured students; serving as a health care resource to camp staff and administrators regarding students’ health histories and concerns; and identifying health problems for referral to the appropriate parties for proper follow-up treatment.
Essential Functions
- Administers first aid, medication, and treatments for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill and/or injured children attending the School Age Care Camp.
- Assesses situations involving student safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug, etc.), and other health-related issues for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment, and complying with legal requirements.
- Collaborates with parents/guardians, students, School Age Care staff, administrators, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services, providing information, and complying with legal requirements.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation of all nursing care and activities within the scope of nursing functions for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
- Maintains contact with parents/guardians for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health and/or recommending further medical and/or emotional intervention.
- Maintains students’ confidential files and records (e.g. health care plans, medication administration records, accident/incident reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
- Monitors students with chronic illnesses for the purpose of assisting the child in achieving the highest possible functional level and safely participating in summer camp activities.
- Participates in meetings, training, and planned sessions for the purpose of gathering, conveying, and/or sharing information about student health needs and summer camp operations.
- Provides consultation and support related to student health needs for School Age Care Camp activities, including outdoor programming and off-site field trips, for the purpose of ensuring student safety and preparedness.
- Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrators and appropriate agencies (e.g. injuries, suspected child or substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining student safety, a positive program environment, and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
- Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, allergic reactions, medication reactions, bleeding, heat-related illness, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action.
- Supports health and safety planning for field trips by reviewing student medical needs, preparing medications and supplies, and providing guidance to School Age Care staff for the purpose of ensuring appropriate care during offsite activities.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: providing health services in a school setting; state laws regarding communicable diseases; health standards and hazards; stages of child development; district procedures and legal requirements; and treatment modalities.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws; applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; and operating medical equipment utilized in the school environment.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Education Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
Equivalency Bachelors degree in nursing preferred.
