Duties and Responsibilities
Libertas Academy is seeking a School Nurse who is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the school’s health program. General responsibilities include program management, nursing services, collaboration, health education, and professional practice. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Establish and manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines, regulations, and statutes governing nursing and school health, and Libertas Academy’s policies;
- Implement a professional healthcare infrastructure that incorporates strong information/data/surveillance management and sharing systems with parent/guardians, students, Libertas staff, and local healthcare professionals (if applicable), to allow for the highest quality of care for all students as it relates to routine and emergency care, or otherwise noted;
- Oversee development of – and teach classes related to the - education health program at Libertas Academy that holistically address students’ physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral needs to promote optimal levels of wellness;
- Collaborate with parent/guardians, students, Libertas staff, and local healthcare professionals (if applicable), to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for specific students, when necessary;
- Partner with community leaders to try and establish routine assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluative programs and services to students within the school environment (e.g. routine vision and hearing exams);
- Be prepared to provide support and referral resources to children and families experiencing acute crisis or emotional upheaval;
- Train Libertas staff to be prepared to address and react to emergencies most common within the Libertas Academy academic environment;
- Prepare Libertas staff to commit to modeling healthy habits and behaviors within the school environment;
- Commit to ongoing professional development via readings, online resources, local, in-person trainings (if applicable), to be on par with growing industry norms and best practices in order to expand knowledge and skills applied within the Libertas Academy academic environment;
- Provide morning and after-school coverage as specified by the team; and
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education: Must hold a BSN or RN with a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- Preferred skills and work experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing, or pediatric nursing;
- An entrepreneurial spirit that reflects an openness to change, a willingness to problem-solve, and an interest in developing new ideas and programs for the health benefit of the full student body;
- A commitment to working with underserved, urban youth;

- The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, growing, and entrepreneurial environment;
- Demonstrates persistence in overcoming and removing obstacles to goal achievement;

- Prior experience working in educational environments preferred, but not required; and
- An ability to speak Spanish preferred, but not required;
