Position Overview

Liberal Public Schools is seeking dependable, flexible, and student-focused individuals to serve as School Substitutes throughout USD 480. School Substitutes provide classroom instruction and supervision when regular teachers are absent, helping ensure students continue learning in a safe, respectful, and productive environment.

Substitutes may work at various schools, grade levels, and subject areas depending on district needs and available assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
• Manage student behavior and reinforce school and classroom expectations.
• Supervise students during classrooms, hallways, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
• Adapt to different grade levels, subjects, classrooms, and school environments.
• Communicate relevant information regarding the school day to the regular teacher or building administration.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
• Follow district policies, school procedures, and safety expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Hold or be eligible to obtain the appropriate KSDE Substitute Teaching License.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively supervise and work with students.
• Dependable, professional, and adaptable to changing assignments.
• Ability to follow written lesson plans and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Work Schedule

• Substitute / on-call position.
• Assignments are based on school and district needs and are not guaranteed every day.
• Opportunities may be available at elementary, middle, and high school locations throughout USD 480.
