Position Summary:

Liberal Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive English Learner (ESL) Teacher to support multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency while achieving academic success. The successful candidate will provide high-quality language instruction, collaborate with classroom teachers, and implement research-based instructional strategies that help English learners thrive in all content areas.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide standards-based English language development instruction to English Learner (EL) students.
  • Develop and implement instructional plans aligned with Kansas English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across all content areas.
  • Use research-based instructional strategies to promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the individual language proficiency levels and academic needs of students.
  • Monitor student progress using classroom assessments and state-required English language proficiency assessments.
  • Assist with EL identification, placement, progress monitoring, and documentation in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with EL program guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and available support services.
  • Participate in Student Improvement Teams, MTSS processes, and other collaborative planning meetings as appropriate.
  • Incorporate technology and instructional resources to enhance language acquisition and student engagement.
  • Support the district’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Kansas teaching license with an ESOL endorsement or eligibility to obtain appropriate Kansas licensure.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition, language development, and effective instructional practices for multilingual learners.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching English Learners in an elementary or secondary setting.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
  • Experience administering and interpreting English language proficiency assessments.
  • Experience collaborating with classroom teachers through co-teaching or consultation models.

Physical Requirements:

The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift instructional materials, and supervise students throughout the school day. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in classrooms and school settings with frequent collaboration among teachers, administrators, students, and families. The work environment typically includes a moderate noise level and may involve travel between district buildings.

Terms of Employment:

Salary, benefits, and work calendar are established in accordance with the negotiated Professional Agreement and approved by the USD 480 Board of Education.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the USD 480 Board of Education.
