Position Overview
Liberal Public Schools is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Business Services Coordinator to support the financial operations of the district. This position oversees the district's general ledger, assists with budgeting and financial reporting, ensures compliance with governmental accounting standards, and supports the daily operations of the Business Office.
The Business Services Coordinator works closely with district administrators, principals, and department staff to maintain accurate financial records, improve accounting processes, and ensure responsible stewardship of district resources.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
- Maintain and reconcile the district's general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Prepare journal entries, financial statements, budget reports, projections, and audit schedules.
- Monitor district expenditures and ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
- Analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend process improvements.
- Assist with annual audits and prepare required financial documentation.
- Reconcile bank accounts and prepare deposits.
Business Office Support
- Collaborate with administrators and department leaders on budget and accounting questions.
- Support purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, employee benefits, and other Business Office functions as needed.
- Assist with implementing and improving accounting systems and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate financial records, reports, and documentation.
- Utilize accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial databases to analyze and report district financial information.
Department Leadership
- Help ensure efficient day-to-day Business Office operations.
- Cross-train with Business Office staff to provide support during absences or high-volume periods.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, personnel, and district information.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Business.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and two years of professional accounting experience; or
- Five years of progressively responsible accounting experience with broad knowledge of accounting principles; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, databases, and financial systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with governmental or school district accounting.
- Knowledge of GASB standards, budgeting, auditing, and internal controls.
- Experience with school finance, payroll, or financial management systems.
