What are the responsibilities and job description for the President & CEO position at LIASE Group?
OVERVIEW:
- LIASE Group is a Global Executive Search firm performing this search out of its office in metro-Detroit, MI USA.
- This is not a traditional President role.
- We are performing a retained search for the President & CEO for an alternative energy company with proprietary energy technology and real IP, currently operating in Chapter 11 with a two-person team.
NOTE - This role is for a builder - Not a manager - Not a caretaker - Not someone optimizing for short-term compensation.
THE SITUATION:
- Existing technology (wind, alternators, distributed energy).
- Minimal infrastructure.
- Limited capital.
- Immediate need for commercialization and revenue.
THE MANDATE:
- Stabilize the business financially.
- Identify and execute the fastest path to revenue.
- Commercialize existing IP (licensing, partnerships, outsourced manufacturing, etc.).
- Define a 1–3 year strategy — build, scale, or position for sale.
THE REALITY:
- You are stepping into a Chapter 11 environment.
- There is no built-out team — you will be hands-on.
- Year 1 compensation is heavily equity-weighted; increasing base salary & bonus payout as company improves cash flow and financial stability.
- You are taking risk in exchange for meaningful ownership and upside.
THE OPPORTUNITY:

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUISITE EXPERIENCE:
We are looking for a very specific profile:
Must-Have Experience:
- You have personally built revenue from near zero (not inherited a business).
- You’ve operated in an early-stage, distressed, or highly resource-constrained environment.
- You have commercialized a product, technology, or IP (licensing, partnerships, direct sales, etc.).
- You are comfortable being a hands-on operator — not leading through layers.
- Must be either a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency.
Strongly Preferred:
- Prior Founder / CEO / President / GM experience.
- Background in energy, industrial, electromechanical, or hardware-based businesses.
- Experience structuring creative deals (OEM, licensing, JV, channel partnerships).
- Exposure to raising capital or navigating complex financial situations.
Critical Success Traits:
- Bias for action — you move fast and prioritize revenue over perfection.
- High tolerance for ambiguity and risk.
- Ownership mindset — you think like an investor, not an employee.
- Willingness to trade short-term cash for long-term equity value.
