Key Responsibilities
- Lead key components of the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, identifying trends, risks, and variances
- Perform budget-to-actual analysis and collaborate with department leaders to explain financial results
- Support forecasting activities, rolling projections, and management reporting
- Maintain and reconcile complex general ledger accounts
- Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll, including review of shift differentials and supplemental pay codes
- Ensure accurate integration and reconciliation between payroll, accounts payable, fundraising, and general ledger systems
- Review accounts payable transactions and employee expense activity
- Serve as the primary point of contact during audits and prepare supporting schedules and workpapers
- Research and apply GAAP guidance to accounting transactions
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and system optimization
- Provide support during annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Serve as a backup to the Controller as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Experience with Financial Edge NXT, Raiser's Edge NXT, ADP Workforce Now, AvidXchange, PEX, or Centage
- Experience supporting external audits and budgeting processes
