Our client, a Not-for-Profit healthcare behavioral health, is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Nursing to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight during a critical transition period.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on nursing leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, building strong teams, and driving operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting nursing operations, mentoring staff, and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care within a complex clinical environment.
Role Overview:
The selected consultant will provide interim leadership for the nursing function during a critical transition period. The focus of this mandate is to stabilize operations, support and develop the nursing team, enhance clinical practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care while establishing a strong foundation for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the nursing team.
- Plan, organize, and administer nursing care and patient management in accordance with professional nursing standards and organizational policies.
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff while fostering a collaborative and accountable culture.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, performance management, and workforce planning activities.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership and interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care delivery and operational alignment.
- Participate in quality improvement, process improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
- Monitor departmental performance and provide recommendations regarding service delivery, resource planning, and operational effectiveness.
- Serve as a clinical resource and support best practices in patient care, staff development, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals, education programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education and Experience:
- Active Massachusetts RN license required; NP or PA licensure may also be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal educational requirements.
- Minimum of five years of nursing leadership experience, ideally within healthcare, behavioral health, acute care, addiction services, or other complex clinical environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading nursing teams and managing clinical operations.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience driving quality improvement initiatives and organizational change.
- Ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and lead teams through periods of transition.
