Construction Accountant (Custom Home Builder)
Location: Huntsville, TX (On-site / In-person)
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to join our team. This is an in-person role based in Huntsville, TX. The position plays a critical part in overseeing the financial health of our custom home building projects, ensuring accurate job cost tracking, compliance, and supporting project managers and leadership with timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Must be able to use Buildertrend.
- Manage all accounting functions related to construction projects, including job cost accounting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll.
- Partner with project managers to develop and maintain project budgets, monitor expenditures, and forecast cash flow needs.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including monthly closing statements, variance reports, and project profitability analysis.
- Process subcontractor/vendor invoices, verify lien waivers, and ensure compliance with contracts.
- Monitor client billings, draw requests, and collections in coordination with lenders and homeowners.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and local/state regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized records for all active and completed projects.
- Assist leadership with financial planning, projections, and decision-making strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not always required with strong experience).
- 2 years of accounting experience in construction, real estate development, or related industry.
- Knowledge of construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300, Buildertrend, or similar).
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP (Work in Progress) reporting, and construction billing processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project managers and leadership.
- Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
