Position Overview
The Project Risk Manager plays a critical role in ensuring successful project execution through proactive risk management. This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on supporting deal team negotiations and managing commercial and contractual risks during deal structuring. Additionally, the role will drive strategic initiatives to improve risk posture across the Project Execution portfolio and foster continuous improvement through lessons learned and process optimization. This is an opportunity to contribute to the growth in North America and the expansion of the Project Execution department. This position reports to the Sr. Director, Project Execution and is hybrid out of our Westborough, MA office or remote if located out of state.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Risk Leadership:
- Drive strategic initiatives to manage and mitigate risk across the Project Execution portfolio.
- Develop and implement risk frameworks that align with business objectives and project delivery strategies.
- Provide risk insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Deal Team Integration:
- Serve as the embedded project execution liaison within deal teams during project negotiations.
- Influence deal structuring by identifying and advising on execution risks and commercial risk allocation.
- Ensure negotiated terms are executable and aligned with delivery capabilities.
Execution Risk Alignment:
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, procurement, and operations teams to validate risk assumptions.
- Ensure seamless transition from deal closure to execution with clear risk ownership and mitigation plans.
- Monitor and report on risk exposure throughout the project lifecycle.
Process Improvement & Lessons Learned:
- Coordinate lessons learned across projects and drive improvement initiatives within the department.
- Lead efforts to standardize risk management practices and tools across the portfolio.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure risk management activities comply with internal governance and external regulatory requirements.
- Maintain documentation and audit trails for risk decisions and mitigation actions.
- Support internal and external audits related to project risk and contractual obligations.
Project & Departmental Support:
- Provide direct support to active projects as needed, including risk reviews and mitigation planning.
- Participate in miscellaneous departmental coordination activities, including cross-functional initiatives and reporting.
- Act as a resource for ad hoc risk-related inquiries and strategic planning efforts.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7 years of experience in project risk management, project execution, or deal structuring.
- Strong understanding of contract negotiation and risk allocation.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure, energy, or capital projects.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Travel
- This position requires approximately 20% travel annually.
