Position Overview
LG Energy Solution Vertech is a leading global systems integrator delivering fully integrated, reliable, and bankable utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) powered by LG Energy Solution’s advanced lithium-ion technology. Our solutions support the clean energy transition through seamless hardware integration, proprietary software, and lifecycle services.
The Commissioning AEROS Specialist specializes in supporting the commissioning of the proprietary AEROS™ software suite, including on-premise AEROS™ EMS (Energy Management System) and related controllers. This hands-on role focuses on startup, configuration, integration, and performance testing of L1 (local/site-level) and L2 (plant-level or aggregated) controllers within AEROS, ensuring optimal system performance, reliable grid interaction, and compliance with project specifications.
Primary Responsibilities
Controller Startup & Configuration
• Perform initial startup, configuration, and parameterization of AEROS L1 and L2 controllers, including EMS core functions, power plant controls (PPC), site-level operating modes, and optimization algorithms.
• Configure communication interfaces (e.g., Modbus TCP, DNP3, IEC 61850) between AEROS controllers, BMS, PCS/inverters, SCADA, metering, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Implement and verify control logic for active/reactive power dispatch, frequency/voltage regulation, market signal following, auto-balancing, and safety-critical functions.
Performance Testing & Verification
• Execute comprehensive performance testing of AEROS-controlled systems, including functional tests, response time validation, mode transitions, redundancy/failover checks, and end-to-end system integration testing.
• Conduct point-to-point verification, loop checks, and data flow validation to confirm accurate monitoring, control, and analytics.
• Support runtime performance assessments, degradation analytics validation, and optimization mode testing to meet contractual performance guarantees and ROI targets.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to controller configuration, communication faults, control logic errors, or integration problems during commissioning.
• Collaborate with software engineers, network specialists, and field teams to implement corrective actions and updates.
• Participate in root cause analysis for any anomalies detected during testing.
• Documentation & Handover
• Generate detailed commissioning reports, test procedures, as-built configurations, and performance verification documentation for AEROS components.
• Assist in preparing handover packages and provide training to customer O&M teams on AEROS EMS operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting.
• Contribute to lessons learned sessions to refine AEROS commissioning processes.
Safety & Compliance
• Adhere to strict HSE protocols, including site-specific safety plans, NFPA 855, OSHA standards, and LGES Vertech safety guidelines during field activities.
• Ensure all AEROS commissioning activities comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEEE, UL, IEC) and cybersecurity requirements (e.g., IEC 62443).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
Experience
• 3 years of hands-on experience in commissioning or startup of control systems, preferably in utility-scale BESS, renewables, or industrial automation.
• Experience with energy management systems (EMS), power plant controllers, or SCADA/PLC programming in energy projects.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) components and grid operations is highly desirable.
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of control systems, including hierarchical controllers (L1/L2 architectures), PID loops, sequencing, and optimization algorithms.
• Proficiency in configuring industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, IEC 61850) and troubleshooting network/data issues.
• Experience with performance testing, data logging/analysis, and verification of control system performance.
• Basic knowledge of battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and grid codes.
• Proficiency in tools such as Wireshark, protocol analyzers, Microsoft Office, and control system configuration software.
Other Requirements
• Willingness to travel up to 25-50% to project sites across the US.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in remote field
