LCA is accepting applications for the position of Middle School Academic Advisor for the 2026-2027 school year. The Academic Advisor for Grade 6-8 is a member of the Academic Advising team within the Office of Student Success and Wellness, serving as a dedicated guide and advocate for middle school students. By developing the skills and habits students need to thrive, the Academic Advisor serves as the primary advisor for an assigned caseload of students, supporting their transition into middle school, facilitating executive functioning workshops and developmental programming, and meeting with students each trimester to monitor progress, set goals, and address areas of concern. This role partners closely with students’ families, faculty, and the Office of Student Success and Wellness to nurture the whole student and lay the foundation for long-term academic success, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Advising:

  • Serve as the primary Academic Advisor for students in Grade 6-8, building meaningful relationships and monitoring academic progress, executive functioning development, and overall school engagement

  • Meet with each student individually each trimester to review academic progress, identify performance trends, conduct root-cause analysis of challenges, set SMART goals, and address areas of opportunity and concern

  • Utilize academic, attendance, behavioral, and executive functioning data to identify trends, monitor student progress, and proactively intervene when concerns emerge 

  • Develop and monitor Academic Improvement Plans (AIPs) in collaboration with the supervisor, utilizing the existing LCA template, for students who require additional academic support

  • Maintain and update each student’s academic profile, documenting progress, strengths, growth areas, interventions, and support plans throughout Grade 6-8

  • Support students through the transition into middle school by building relationships, establishing academic routines, fostering self-advocacy, and connecting students to available resources

  • Partner with parents, teachers, and members of the Office of Student Success and Wellness to communicate student progress, coordinate support strategies, and promote student success


Student Skill Development:  

  • Facilitate executive functioning workshops and developmental programming that build age-appropriate skills and habits across the middle school years, including being the primary teacher for the Grade 6 Executive Functioning class and the 7th and 8th-grade seminar courses

  • Continuously assess, refine, and improve executive functioning curriculum and programming based on student data, outcomes, and feedback

  • Assess individual students’ strengths and growth areas to inform personalized learning support

  • Collaborate with teachers and members of the Office of Student Success and Wellness on strategies that support executive functioning and student success across the academic environment 

  • Provide families with tools and resources to reinforce executive functioning skills and independent learning habits at home


Team & Community Support:

  • Participate in regular team meetings within the Office of Student Success and Wellness to ensure coordinated and collaborative student support

  • Engage in MTSS meetings, collaborating with faculty and staff to identify students with emerging academic concerns and coordinate appropriate support strategies

  • Manage a structured advising calendar to track trimester meetings for all assigned students and prepare regular progress reports for the Dean of Student Success and Wellness

  • Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation in accordance with school procedures and expectations

  • Exercise sound professional judgment, maintain appropriate boundaries with students, and collaborate with the Wellness Counselor, Dean of Student Success and Wellness, and other school personnel when student needs extend beyond the scope of the Academic Advisor role

  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the supervisor in support of the broader Office of Student Success and Wellness (e.g., study hall coverage, student success events, workshops, etc.)


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to build positive relationships with high school students while fostering accountability, self-awareness, and personal growth

  • Skilled in partnering and communicating effectively with parents, faculty, and students

  • Self-starter who also works well as a collaborative team player

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organization, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced school environment

  • Strong attention to detail and process orientation 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong knowledge of Google Workspace and general computer proficiency

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field preferred

  • 5 years of experience, preferably working with high school students or in a youth-serving setting

  • Experience in teaching, academic coaching, and/or student development, executive functioning development, or academic advising


SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position on the Academic work cycle. Some flexibility is required for occasional events (Orientation, Parent Workshops, Student Success Events, etc.).

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and/or qualifications. A competitive benefits package is available.
