Boilermaker Overview

As a Boilermaker, you'll expertly assemble, analyze defects, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats in the field using blueprints and hand tools. Boilermaker Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on foundation, using master straightedge, squares, transit, and measuring tape, and applying knowledge of geometry.
• Attach rigging or signals crane operator in left parts to specified position.
• Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame, tanks, or vats, using plumb bobs, levels, wedges, dogs, or turnbuckles.
• Hammer, flame-cuts, files, or grinds irregular edges of sections or structural pats to facilitate fitting edges together.
• Bolt or arc-weld structures and sections frame.
• Align water tubes and connects and expands ends to drums and headers, using tube expander.
• Weld tube ends to ensure leak proof joints.
• Bolt or weld casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles, and such fabricated parts as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, feeding tube, catwalks, ladders, coal hoppers, and safety hatch to frame, using wrench.
• Install valves, gauges, feed water connection in drums to complete assembly of water tube boilers.
• Assist in testing assembled vessels by pumping water or gas under specified pressure into vessels and observing instruments for evidence of leakage.
• Responsible for adhering to company safety and QA/QC programs and OSHA regulations.
• The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
  
  

BoilermakerQualifications

• Minimum of two years boilermaker experience required.
• Must have ability to apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
• Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures and objects.
  
  

BoilermakerPhysical Demands

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and climb in excess of 300 feet.
• Must have ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Must have excellent vision (naturally or corrective).
• May be required to be licensed.
