What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Toddler Teacher position at Lewis Cass Early Learning Academy?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Others may be assigned.
- Must have a CDA, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Prior Childcare experience preferred; specifically infant care
- CPR/First Aid certified - or willingness to obtain (must renew yearly)
- Knowledge of Paths to Quality, NAEYC, and Indiana licensing standards preferred.
- Professional dress and appearance is a must.
- Must be competent in language arts and math.
- Ability to interact professionally with adults and children with a positive attitude.
- Maintain confidentiality on job related tasks.
- Must be flexible. It is our job to meet the needs of our children and families.
- Must be willing to learn, set professional goals, and participate in job related training.
Performance Responsibilities: Others may be assigned.
- Ensure the smooth operation of the classroom in a calm and safe manner.
- Establish feeding plans for all infants and ensure they are kept up to date at all times.
- Work with parents to establish a schedule for each infant.
- Follow all serving sizes outlined on infant feeding plans and posted menus
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom.
- Ensure your classroom meets all Paths to Quality, NAEYC, and Indiana State licensing
standards. Classrooms must be in compliance at all times.
- Strictly adhere to Safe Sleep guidelines for Child Care Centers.
- Monitor student’s progress; communicate milestones with parents.
- Administer record keeping on all children; including but not limited to daily records, monthly
observations, and bi-annual progress reports. A portfolio must be made for each child. There
must be 2 observations each month and one example of their work (picture of them doing
something or an actual artifact of something they’ve made.
- Use curriculum effectively and write lesson plans based on each infant’s ability and
developmental level.
- Maintain rapport with parents.
- Never use any form of punishment with a child. We will only use positive reinforcement and
redirection.
- Challenging behaviors must be documented thoroughly and the Director/Assistant Director
must be made aware of the behaviors early on. Don’t wait until it has been a problem for a long
amount of time before saying something. Our goal will be to work through challenging

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with
hands and arms, I.E.: writing, typing, unlatching, unclasping, twisting lids, ensuring safe
feeding temperatures, etc.
The employee is regularly required to react and act quickly to ensure the safety and overall
well-being of all children.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell. The
employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to
25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Pay: $16.00 - $30.00 per hour
