Position Details

- Type: 1099 Contract
- Location: 100% Remote
- Hours: 20-25 hours per week
- Compensation: $30-$40 per hour (based on experience)
- Experience Level: 4–7 years preferred
- Reports To: Director of Finance
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support our accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, supporting the monthly close process, and managing day-to-day accounting activities. This role will work both internally on accounting functions as well as externally with outside clients on their various accounting needs.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a remote environment. They take ownership of their work, meet deadlines consistently, and communicate effectively across teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute monthly close processes, ensuring all costs are recorded or accrued and revenue is recognized accurately
- Maintain general ledger integrity through timely journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations with supporting documentation
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, including tracking outstanding items and recording fees and interest
- Manage accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and customer deposits
- Oversee accounts payable, ensuring accurate and timely payments to vendors and subcontractors
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support long-term partnerships
- Review and ensure the accuracy and quality of all accounting deliverables and client-facing outputs
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, issues, and escalations
- Partner with the Accounting Manager and/or Director of Finance, as applicable, to review work in progress (WIP), ensuring contract values, budgets, and change orders are accurately reflected
- Validate revenue recognition aligns with percentage-of-completion (POC), including cost and billing accuracy
- Maintain confidentiality of financial data and company information
- Support ad hoc reporting and special projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 4–7 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required
- Experience with commercial construction accounting required
- Strong understanding of GAAP and technical accounting principles
- Familiarity with tools such as Sage, BlueFolder, or similar construction/accounting software is a plus
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
- Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a remote setting
