Summary

Maintenance Technician 2 is expected to independently execute preventive maintenance and troubleshoot common equipment failures across our production and packaging lines. The Technician 2 sits in the middle of our technician development ladder: capable of owning routine PM work and everyday breakdowns from diagnosis and troubleshooting through documentation, while recognizing when a problem requires escalation to a senior technician, controls technician, supervisor, or OEM.

The ideal candidate troubleshoots logically, works safely without supervision, proves a component has failed before replacing it, and understands that a machine running again does not mean the work is complete until it is documented.

Position Responsibilities

• Independently perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment; document findings and generate follow-up corrective work for abnormalities discovered, whether or not they appear on the PM checklist.
• Respond to and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns using a logical sequence: operator feedback, observation, alarm/HMI review, and systematic isolation of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control causes before replacing parts.
• Repair or replace worn or failed components including belts, chains, bearings, gearboxes, couplings, sensors, pneumatic components, and motors within demonstrated competency.
• Perform basic electrical troubleshooting on three-phase motors, starters, VFDs, and sensors, including safe voltage verification, fault code interpretation, and overload/protection checks.
• Distinguish between a machine that is not being commanded to run and one that is commanded but unable to run, and troubleshoot accordingly.
• Follow all lockout/tagout procedures, verify zero-energy state before work, and maintain electrically safe work practices at all times.
• Test all repairs and verify correct operation with Production before returning equipment to service.
• Fully document all work performed: asset, symptom, findings, cause, repair performed, parts used, testing completed, and any required follow-up, using the daily pass-down system and CMMS.
• Identify repeat failures, investigate underlying causes rather than repeating the same repair, and escalate recurring issues with documentation to support root cause analysis.
• Provide complete parts identification information (manufacturer, model, part number, nameplate data, photos, asset) when requesting parts from the Parts Coordinator.
• Escalate safety issues, major downtime, controls/programming changes, and unfamiliar or high-risk work promptly and appropriately.
• Maintain GMP compliance and LesserEvil's culture of Food Safety throughout all daily functions, meeting SQF expectations for maintenance work in production areas.
• Support and mentor Technician 1 team members during shared work.
• Assist in the maintenance of the company's fleet of PITs (Powered Industrial Trucks) as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and special projects as designated.

Position Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent work experience
• 3 years experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial environment; food or consumer goods manufacturing preferred
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic failures on production equipment
• Working knowledge of three-phase motors, motor starters, VFD basics, sensors, and safe multimeter use
• Understanding of lockout/tagout and hazardous energy control, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, gravity, and stored mechanical energy
• Ability to read and use electrical and mechanical drawings while troubleshooting
• Strong documentation habits and comfort with CMMS systems, digital pass-downs, and photo documentation
• Clear judgment about when to work independently and when to escalate
• Ability to communicate technical information both in writing and verbally with management, Production, and fellow technicians

Working Conditions

• Meeting standards of GMP/SQF
• Able to work safely in loud, automated machine intense areas
• Able to work in conditions that may be loud, wet, and/or dusty from airborne particles
• Able to work in conditions with unregulated/varying temperatures
• Able to work in conditions where floors may be slippery due to environmental hazards (ex. raw materials overflow, splashing of water in sanitation area, etc.)
• Able to work in conditions where PPE may be required (Respirator, face mask, etc.)
• Able to work safely with sharp items, including tooling and mechanical equipment
• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, crouching or climbing
• Climbing ladders and/or stairs
• Comfortable working from a mezzanine with active machinery
• Mandatory overtime based on business needs
• Operating machinery and/or power tools

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Able to bend, lift, pull, and push
• Able to drive a forklift; certification is a plus

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must be willing to work in Danbury and New Milford, CT
• Must have a reliable vehicle as daily trips between sites may be necessary
