The Emissions Certification Test Engineer is responsible for preparing and testing vehicles for evaporative emissions (EVAP) and conformity of production (COP) certification. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with emissions regulations and supporting certification activities.

Key Responsibilities
Evaporative (EVAP) Testing
Create vehicle build-up work orders and ensure proper certification build configurations.
Resolve test vehicle issues, coordinate updates, and manage part acquisition.
Load vehicle calibrations (module flashes) and execute related update procedures.
Coordinate mileage accumulation activities for test vehicles.
Submit test requests, review results, and ensure accuracy of data.
Monitor EVAP test procedures conducted by lab personnel (e.g., ORVR, 2-Day SHED, 3-Day SHED).
Prepare and upload final test reports into internal systems.
Plan and schedule future evaporative testing procedures.
Define and manage Evaporative Emission Families in certification databases.
Coordinate and oversee out-of-state emissions testing activities.
Conformity of Production (COP) Testing
Acquire non-U.S. production vehicles from manufacturing plants.
Create vehicle build-up work orders in line with certification configurations.
Submit test requests, analyze resulting data, and validate outcomes.
Monitor COP emissions tests conducted by lab personnel.
Upload and manage final test reports within certification systems.
Coordinate vehicle logistics and shipment schedules.
Support international emissions witness testing as required.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with emphasis on automotive testing (emissions or fuel economy preferred).
Strong organizational and tracking skills to manage multiple vehicles in complex test cycles.
Proficiency in data analysis and processing tools (MS Excel and related software).
Knowledge of North American emissions regulations, testing, and certification procedures.
Ability to work onsite in lab and garage environments with both technical staff and skilled trades.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hybrid and/or electric vehicle testing.
Knowledge of propulsion system calibration or aftertreatment systems.
Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics and Controller Area Network (CAN) data collection.
Exposure to corporate certification and calibration software applications.
Additional Requirements
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Highly self-motivated with strong initiative.
Willingness to conduct tests at multiple onsite facilities as needed.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive test vehicles.
Position is 100% onsite in Southeast Michigan; minimal travel required.
