What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prototype Technician position at LER TechForce?
The Lab Technician will assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair R&D hardware prototypes while ensuring compliance with ISO 16949 standards. This role involves performing mechanical assembly, cable testing, PCB rework, and utilizing tools such as oscilloscopes, soldering equipment, and microscopes to support hardware and firmware development. The technician will maintain detailed documentation, communicate results to engineering teams, and apply strong problem-solving skills to ensure quality and reliability throughout the development process.
- Efficiently and effectively perform assembly, testing & troubleshoot/repair of R&D hardware prototypes.
- Utilize hand tools, microscope, and soldering equipment
- Mechanical assembly of prototype systems.
- Perform Cable qualifications, testing and modifications.
- Interact with hardware and firmware engineers to communicate results.
- Read schematics and assist in PCB bring up and debug. Create rework documentation.
- Work from product specifications and written/verbal instructions.
- Record build data and testing results.
- Maintain detailed documentation through all phases of development, testing and analysis
Education/Experience
- AA Degree or equivalent work experience in related discipline and 6 years of related experience in the automotive industry
Required Skills
- Able to solder and inspect PCBA's
- Working knowledge of: DMM, Oscilloscope, Video Scope etc.
- Experience with automotive requirements and design preferred.
- Working knowledge of product development engineering practices in automotive field.
- Working knowledge of IPC A610
- Adhere to ISO 16949 procedures and maintain compliance
- Maintain a clean and ESD safe work area
- Familiar with pcb layout viewer
- CAN, LIN and other automotive networks and related tools a plus
- A knowledge of MS Office package
