What you will be doing:
- Lead diagnostic systems architecture and Interface Control Documents for ECUs and embedded modules.
- Define requirements for DTC strategy, service implementation, OBD-II/J1979 behaviors, and failure mode logic.
- Host technical discussions and design reviews; drive FMEAs and ensure requirements-to-test traceability.
- Plan and execute complex diagnostic deliverables from concept through validation and release.
- Calibrate diagnostic thresholds and ensure successful feature integration.
- Collaborate with embedded software, validation, and hardware teams.
- Build and maintain diagnostic test plans, scripts, and acceptance criteria.
- Mentor systems engineers and manage change control.
- Lead root-cause analysis of field, service, manufacturing, and design issues.
What you'll need to be successful:
Essential:
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field.
- 7 years in embedded control systems with proven experience in diagnostics and systems engineering.
- Proficiency with CAN, UDS, J1979/J1939, and diagnostic data design.
- Strong systems experience including requirements, ICDs, FMEAs, traceability, and test coverage.
- Effective cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in engineering or related field.
- Hands-on experience with engine tuning, calibration tools, or dyno/vehicle testing.
- Familiarity with automotive communication protocols.
- Experience with diagnostic architecture and system modeling.
- Knowledge of OBD compliance (EPA/CARB), ISO, UL, and other regulatory standards.
- Understanding of Internal Combustion Engine fundamentals and Engine Management Systems.
