The individual must be able to understand plant processes to determine and apply proper design methods for implementation using knowledge of electronics, engineering, and mechanics.
The Controls Application Engineer must strive to create efficient designs and programming unique to each project. The Controls Application Engineer will apply PLC based industrial automation systems with HMI interfaces to control machine operations with Variable Speed AC & DC Drives. The Engineer will serve as the technical lead on projects and be assigned design, execution, and commissioning of custom motor control systems. You will interface directly with engineering team and will also work independently
to meet customer requirements.
This is a direct opportunity with our customer in Macomb county. The role does require the person to be onsite.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Review electrical design specifications to establish project requirements through interaction with colleagues & customers.
- Create electrical designs including schematics, motor control cabinet assemblies, wiring charts, machine interconnects, and component-level documentation.
- Create PLC/Client programming for Rockwell Software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, and Factory Talk View Studio ME & SE).
- Design, program, test, troubleshoot and deploy PLC's, HMI's, AC Drives & DC Drives.
- Create and maintain project bills of materials.
- Review and implement change requests.
- Use AutoCAD to design and edit electrical schematics.
- Apply Ethernet/IP and other industrial networks to design & implement industrial control topologies for communications of PLC's, Client's, HMI's AC/DC Drives, and other process electrical hardware.
- Continually learn machinery process' to create electrical designs and programming solutions.
- Communicate directly with customers about project status, designs, troubleshooting and support.
- Demonstrate project completeness through in-house testing, on-site commissioning, and customer acceptance.
- Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is ideal
- Experience with AutoCAD software for electrical designs.
- Experience designing and laying out electrical control enclosures.
- Experience designing AC & DC electrical diagrams for in-house wiring and assembly.
- Experience with AC power distribution and fieldbus I/O network designs.
- Experience with AC & DC drives, motors, soft-starters, and motor starters.
- 5 years of Controls experience is required. We need someone to take the project from cradle to grave.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and written.
- Ability to effectively communicate project information and respond to questions from colleagues and customers.
- The ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook.
- Experience using a multi-meter and other electrical equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical problems.
- Experience writing PLC, Client and HMI programs.
- Ability to be present at work predictably and consistently.
- Ability to work politely and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Ability to manage several tasks at once.
- Ability to follow directions or instructions.
- Ability to use a computer to communicate, create, and access information.
- Ability to travel domestically via commercial airline and automobile up to 20% of the time.
- Ability to effectively plan, organize, and complete work with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with AC & DC Drive programming to control variable speed motors for velocity, torque and positioning applications.
- Proficiency with other programming software (ex. Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Idec, Automation Direct, Etc.).
- Proficiency with other industrial communications protocols (ex. ProfiNet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Etc.).
