What You Will Be Doing
Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer to support its Assembly Planning Engineering team. In this role, you will provide technical support for new manufacturing equipment from concept through installation, commissioning, and production startup.
You will review equipment designs, support vendor buyoffs, oversee installations, troubleshoot control systems, and help ensure manufacturing equipment meets safety, quality, productivity, and reliability objectives.
Responsibilities
- Review equipment specifications, electrical drawings, and control system designs while identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct vendor buyoffs to verify equipment functionality prior to installation.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and production launch activities.
- Verify equipment meets safety, quality, and productivity requirements.
- Investigate equipment issues, determine modification requirements, implement improvements, and validate results.
- Improve project timing and reduce costs by coordinating vendor installation activities and supporting Kanban processes.
- Optimize equipment performance during production trials.
- Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment including:
- ToyoPuc
- Allen-Bradley
- Siemens
- Omron
- Mitsubishi
- Train maintenance personnel on newly installed equipment and control systems.
- Serve as a controls subject matter expert for maintenance and production teams.
- Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally as required.
- Support overtime, weekends, and holiday work during equipment installations and production launches.
What You'll Need
Required Qualifications
- 2-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 6 years of PLC programming and industrial controls experience.
- 4 years programming and troubleshooting PLCs such as:
- ToyoPuc
- Allen-Bradley
- Siemens
- Omron
- Mitsubishi
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical circuits and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
- Ability to work overtime as needed during project launches.
- Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds and work in an active manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Industrial robot programming and teach experience.
- AGV/AMR programming and commissioning experience.
- Safety scanner programming experience.
- Industrial networking knowledge including:
- EtherNet/IP
- FL-net
- PROFINET
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- Experience with machinery safety standards and risk assessments.
- OSHA 10 certification.
