The Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and Andrus Gerontology Center are multidisciplinary in their research and curriculum goals. This recruiting effort seeks candidates from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including graduates in disciplines and professions such as epidemiology, neuropsychology, and health services. Additionally, opportunities are available for joint appointments with academic units across the USC Campus. Cluster hires in areas of interest are possible.

We are in search of Three Part-Time Lecturers or Adjunct Instructors specializing in aging-related services.

Position 1: Lecturer or Adjunct Instructor – Financial Gerontology (GERO 452)

Focus: Economics and the Aged We are seeking an expert in Financial Gerontology to lead GERO 452: Economics and the Aged. The ideal candidate will possess a multidisciplinary background that intersects the financial, legal, and psychological aspects of aging.

  • Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, economics, and law as they relate to the aging population.
  • Key Responsibilities: Deliver curriculum covering economic policy, retirement security, and legal protections for older adults.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated history of working directly with or on behalf of older adults. Familiarity with academic accreditation a plus.

Position 2 and 3: Adjunct Instructor – Senior Living Leadership

Focus: Senior Living Industry Development and operations. We are in search of a seasoned leader from the Senior Living Industry to provide students with high-level operational insights. This role requires a professional who bridges the gap between executive leadership and classroom instruction.

  • Qualifications: Must hold an MBA, MSG or equivalent advanced degree. A deep understanding of how aging services can be leveraged to benefit older adults across senior living communities.
  • Key Attributes: Strong business acumen and a vast professional network of industry associates to engage as guest lecturers. Translating industry experience into actionable lessons on service delivery and organizational growth
  • Experience: Extensive leadership experience in senior living environments and a background in post-secondary teaching.

Must be able to teach any of the following courses:

GERO 501 - Applied Legal and Regulatory Issues in Aging

GERO 502 - Marketing and Shifts in Consumer Decision Making

GERO 504 - Current Issues in Aging Services Management

GERO 574 - Leadership and Management in Senior Living

GERO 578 - Revenue Management for Senior Living

GERO 589 - Case Studies in Leadership and Change Management

GERO 552 - Human Resources and Aging

GERO 504 - Current Issues in Aging Services Management

Successful candidates should be subject matter experts in one or more of the following:  Business development and operations in the senior living and healthcare markets. Must have expertise in development, finance, operations, marketing, branding.

Part-Time and Adjunct Lecturers spend most of their time on teaching and teaching-related duties and may also assist in the development of our new courses as well as the development of new curricula and accreditation, as needed. 

USC reserves the “Adjunct Lecturer” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty may teach one class each semester (summer, fall, and spring). 

USC reserves the “Part-Time Lecturer” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time who are not employed full-time in a primary position or career elsewhere. Part-Time Lecturers are eligible to teach more than one course a semester.

These are part-time roles that will require substantial commitment and flexibility. Instructors are required to teach in person (on–campus) and to have regular office hours to assist our students.

Preferred Qualifications for all Positions

  • Graduate degree or 15 years of experience in senior living field
  • Experience with distance learning
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level
  • Prior course development experience

Qualifications: A MBA or MSG degree or equivalent degree is required, and a minimum of 5 years of combined professional and teaching experience is preferred. Preference is given to candidates with a proven track record of prior teaching experience at a recognized university, and the ability to teach courses focused on business development, operations (including human resources), marketing and branding.

The core salary range for this position is $38 - $42 per hour. These are part-time roles with effort below 50%.
