Job Title: ELAS Instructional Coach/Specialist
Position Objective: To provide instructional staff members with strategies, tools, and techniques to effectively teach and provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum to English Language Learner students. Monitor the SEI program for compliance in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. The ELAS Instructional Coach/Specialist shall serve as a liaison between schools and the district.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the design and implementation of standards-based curriculum, assessment, and instruction to impact student achievement positively.
- Coaches and mentors teachers who require assistance with instructional strategies, classroom management, and lesson design to accomplish the objectives established for English Language learners serviced in classrooms that meet the required Targeted ELD and/or Integrated ELD minutes as part of the state-approved SEI models.
- Supports differentiated instruction and the integration of appropriate ELD strategies/methods for all students.
- Provide instructional support through formal and informal discussions with individual teachers; coaching, co-planning, demonstration lessons with pre and post-discussion/analysis, co-teaching, study groups, staff meetings, professional development workshops/in-services, and lesson studies.
- Conduct classroom observations and walkthroughs and provide feedback facilitating teacher reflection and growth.
- Support teachers in disaggregating student data for instructional planning and professional development.
- Actively participate in and presents professional development activities and events that support English language development, including instruction and assessments.
- Design and present professional development activities and events that increase teachers’ capacity to deliver targeted and/or integrated ELD instruction.
- Prepares and updates EL student data in the student information system.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal laws for English learners, including file audits, lesson plan compliance, and EL model implementation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience with English Language Learners
- ESL or SEI Endorsement
- Fingerprint Clearance Card
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
