This position performs mid-level leadership in support of the functions the agency.  An individual in this non-sworn, full-time position of court security for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Bailiff Unit must be highly responsible and will be assigned specifically to the courthouse entrance security function. The majority of duties involve assisting Deputies in maintaining security and decorum at the entrances to the courthouse. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the operation of security screening at the main and staff/services entrances, and for monitoring the security equipment. Civilian Court Technicians assist with emergency evacuations of the building. Civilian Court Technicians shall not have direct supervision over persons in custody. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Deputy on duty at their assigned location. This position must adhere to the agency core values of honesty and integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust and respect and commitment to excellence. To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate competency in chose from these skills data entry and retrieval skills, time management skills, basic to intermediate computer skills, general communication skills (both written and oral), interpersonal skills, customer service skills and problem-solving skills.
  1. Assist Deputies to conduct efficient day-to-day operations of the courthouse entrances.
  2. Assist with any additional duties required by the Sheriff or through situational necessity.
  3. Assist with emergency evacuation of the courthouses.
  4. Notify rescue or other appropriate authority and provide emergency assistance in disaster or other emergency situations.
  5. Maintain an alert and business-like manner within the courthouse.
  6. Observe all persons who arouse suspicion and notify a Deputy of any person whose appearance, conduct, or presence seems suspicious. 
  7. Ability to act effectively in extremely divergent interpersonal settings.
  8. Ability to analyze problems quickly and take appropriate action under stress.
  9. Ability to apply common sense and procedures to solve practical problems.
  10. Ability to obtain relevant and accurate information through interviews and observation.
  11. Ability to cope with situations courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
  12. Ability to remember names, faces, and other details of incidents and physical surroundings.
  13. Ability to act effectively without direct supervision; to exercise discretion, caution, reasonable calmness, and self-control under adverse conditions and maintain control of a particular situation or emergency.    
  14. Ability to maintain mental alertness needed to observe activities and implement appropriate action.    
  15. Ability to use a computer with minimal instructions.
  16. Ability to work closely with others as a team.
  17. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  18. Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, and objective written and oral reports.
  19. Ability to meet requirements and maintain required licensures and certifications as well as agency required in-service training.
  20. Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
  21. Ability to report to work timely, consistently, and as scheduled.
  22. Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • High school diploma or GED required; AND
  • Successfully complete the Court Security training process.
  • Military Experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lift, push, carry or pull a minimum of 25 pounds independently.
