The Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller serves Leon County residents by supporting court operations, processing and recording judicial orders, and safeguarding public records and funds.

Starting Salary Notice: 
 Initial appointments are typically made at or near the minimum of the approved pay range, consistent with budget authorization and internal equity.

Position Overview:
The Court Collections Specialist performs specialized administrative and compliance functions supporting the collection of court-ordered financial obligations. The position administers structured repayment workflows for fines, fees, costs, civil judgments, and related obligations in accordance with court orders, statutes, and established procedures. The role supports financial accountability, compliance tracking, and timely resolution of outstanding balances while maintaining accurate documentation and professional service standards.
This position reports to the Staff Attorney and operates within a structured public-sector environment requiring professionalism, accountability, confidentiality, and adherence to defined authority. The position applies established procedures but does not interpret legal rulings, provide legal advice, or exercise judicial authority.Collections & Financial Compliance Support
 Supports the administration and processing of court-ordered financial obligations including fines, fees, costs, restitution, and related assessments in accordance with court orders and established procedures. Calculates balances where authorized, processes payments and payment arrangements within delegated authority, and ensures accuracy, documentation, confidentiality, and proper system entry of all related transactions.

Payment Plan Administration & Monitoring
Establishes and manages structured payment arrangements within authorized program parameters. Monitors payment activity, tracks delinquency status, and performs follow-up communication consistent with established workflows while coordinating escalation of noncompliance in accordance with established procedures.

Civil Judgement Processing Support
Supports calculation and tracking of civil judgment balances, including application of authorized interest and verification of adjustments where applicable. Maintains documentation supporting balance calculations and communicates procedural information to customers within authorized scope.

Delinquency Tracking & Workflow Coordination
Tracks payment activity across assigned caseloads and applies established workflow steps for late fees, delinquency milestones, and referral actions. Coordinates internal routing and external referral activity consistent with established procedures.

Transaction Processing & Financial Documentation
 Processes authorized financial transactions and maintains accurate case and payment records in designated systems. Ensures proper documentation of collection activities, payment plans, and customer communications while maintaining internal control compliance.

Assignments may vary based on operational need and cross-training.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Foundational Knowledge
General knowledge of office procedures, financial transaction practices, customer service standards, confidentiality requirements, and court-ordered financial obligations including fines, fees, costs, and civil judgments.

Functional Skills
Ability to accurately enter, retrieve, calculate, and communicate financial information within authorized systems. Ability to administer payment arrangements, process transactions, and maintain accurate documentation within structured workflows. Ability to follow established procedures and escalate issues appropriately.

Communication & Professional Skills
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public, attorneys, justice partners, and staff regarding financial obligations and compliance requirements. Ability to maintain composure in high-volume or emotionally charged situations. Ability to explain procedural information without providing legal advice.

Analytical & Judgment Skills
Ability to apply policies, procedures, and service standards consistently. Ability to identify discrepancies, analyze account activity, and refer matters to appropriate personnel. Ability to adapt to changing assignments and operational priorities.



Required Education
High school diploma or GED.
Associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. 

Required Experience
Experience in collections, financial transaction processing, court operations, clerical administration, or related environments is desired. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Required Licensure or Certification
None required.


CONDITIONS OF JOB OFFER & EMPLOYMENT 

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of:

-Driver’s License may be required if assigned duties involve travel between Clerk locations

-90 - Day Introductory Period 


Work is performed in public-facing office environments. The position may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, or repetitive hand movements consistent with office operations. The employee may interact with individuals who are emotional, upset, or confrontational and must maintain professionalism at all times. Work schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekend hours to support service delivery and operational coverage.
