As a leading supplier of infrared (IR) imaging, DRS NIS - Texas is seeking a Process Engineer who will be responsible for developing, sustaining, and improving thin-film processes used to manufacture IR sensing semiconductor materials. Responsibilites will include process ownership, material disposition, process development, process onboarding and process troubleshooting. This position is critical to success of DRS IR imaging products.

Job Summary
As a leading supplier of infrared (IR) imaging, DRS NIS - Texas is seeking a Process Engineer who will be responsible for developing, sustaining, and improving thin-film processes used to manufacture IR sensing semiconductor materials. Responsibilites will include process ownership, material disposition, process development, process onboarding and process troubleshooting. This position is critical to success of DRS IR imaging products.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide process engineering support to IR materials manufacturing team. Areas of responsibility will include thin-film support to include surface preparation, passivation, and doping over a variety of process equipment that includes, but it not limited to molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, and evaporation.
- Continuously improve existing manufacturing processes to optimize yield, increase capacity, and reduce cycle time.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with existing products and makes modifications and improvements as needed.
- Monitor and report on process yields, cycle time, and key WIP/Inventory levels
- Establish and maintain metrics to validate material quality at various stages in the process flow
- Analyze and disposition non-conforming material or processes.
- Design, develop, and document new or improved processes and equipment
- Interact with management, peers, technicians, and support personnel to coordinate technical activities and progress reports
- Other duties as assigned
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field such as Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics
- Experience: 5 years Thin Film Experience. SME of Thin Film technologies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and desire to work with equipment and tools for the purpose of process improvement, new process/equipment development, and troubleshooting.
- Must be organized, enthusiastic, and creative with a desire to solve problems and improve all aspects of manufacturing process.
- Able to effectively communicate with individuals with diverse educational backgrounds
- Willingness to spend extended periods of time in manufacturing areas or cleanrooms
- Self-starter with excellent verbal communication and documentation skills.
- Flexible and able to perform a wide variety of tasks and processes
- Able to effectively manage and balance production requirements and development activities.
- Manufacturing process and equipment troubleshooting experience
- Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, and formal problem solving methods such as DMAIC
- Programming and data query experience is a plus
