CertainTeed Roofing, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is seeking a motivated Research Engineer I to join their team in Malvern, PA.
This position is responsible for the development of new products, materials and processes for CertainTeed's Roofing Business with a focus on residential shingle and its accessories. Progress of R&D projects will be tracked using Stage Gate process. In addition to collaborating with peers and other teams through Stage Gate, this role will focus on the characterization of raw material in-use and existing processes, as well as identifying the root cause of quality and efficiency issues in production through hands-on lab and theoretical analysis and collaboration with peer R&D teams or external vendors. The Research Engineer I will follow up with plants accordingly to discuss continuous improvements and clearly documenting all findings to share results with colleagues.

Essential Functions
- Utilizes basic scientific or engineering principles and techniques to understand specific tasks and projects with limited scope; manage and document projects effectively with supervision; demonstrate open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility; seek out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
- Technical support for quality, purchasing, marketing and sales groups and potentially end customers on request.
- Interface with manufacturing plants across the US for new product development and resolve escalated technical issues.
- Fully participate in CertainTeed's R&D activities to collaborate across boundaries and cultures, providing rapid business innovation and contributing to the overall innovation of Saint-Gobain.
- Promote innovation and advance scientific understanding that addresses business growth strategy and fits market and customer needs.
- Investigate patent and technical literature, perform competitive analysis, and develop new patents for business.
- Follow Saint-Gobain's HSE Policies, encouraging, empowering, and involving every team member to create a safety-centric culture for all activities.
- Candidates must be able to translate technical and business requirements into objective and achievable plans.
- Independently design and implement work schedules to meet project goals.
