Join Stryker's Orthopedic Instruments (OI) team as a Principal Industrial Designer, where creativity meets purpose. In this role, you will lead design activities and collaborate with engineering and marketing teams to develop innovative product platforms focused on surgical procedural solutions. Leveraging User-Centered Design techniques, you'll ensure optimal user experience, ergonomics, usability, human factors, aesthetics, and safety.
As a design leader, you will plan and conduct user observation research in the OR, synthesize insights, and translate them into compelling design solutions through 2D and 3D visualization, prototypes, and systems. From concept to implementation, you'll guide the design development process, merging user needs with business objectives to deliver high-quality solutions. Successful candidates will bring a strong commercial portfolio, leadership qualities, and the ability to mentor team members while driving design strategy at the business level.

What You Will Do
- Ensure consistency of visual brand language across divisional and inter-divisional product designs.
- Identify new market opportunities-both core and adjacent-aligned with brand values and strategic goals.
- Lead research on design trends and product limitations; use insights to define user experience, aesthetics, safety, functionality, and production feasibility.
- Drive development of product vision and portfolio brand language, influencing design strategy and execution.
- Provide expert input on form development, human factors, ergonomics, material selection, finishes, color, and graphical user interfaces for Stryker products.
- Lead and facilitate multi-disciplinary team meetings, presenting design concepts and portfolio to stakeholders and management.
- Oversee testing and validation of designs through focus groups, surveys, and user feedback sessions; manage external design firms as needed.
- Mentor Industrial Designers, lead design reviews, and actively contribute to building design excellence within the team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science (Industrial Design, Product Design, or related discipline) with relevant experience in design and product development.
- 8 years of professional experience, including leading development teams and projects, supported by a portfolio showcasing commercialized products.
- Proven experience working in a regulated industry.
- Expertise in design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino)
- Experience with Creo or similar advanced CAD tools.
- Background in the medical device industry.
