The Director of Culture Activation is a key member of the Culture & Inclusion team, responsible for driving the activation of Microsoft’s culture strategy. This role will work closely with the General Manager (GM) of Culture & Inclusion to set the strategic direction and will own the science, frameworks, and connections that drive culture activation across the organization. By leveraging systems thinking and a deep understanding of organizational culture, this role will ensure that culture is embedded in leadership behaviors, decision-making, and the overall employee experience at Microsoft.

The Director will partner closely with teams across the organization to drive the integration of culture into business practices, behaviors, and experiences. As the Director of Culture Activation, you’ll be integral in shaping the company’s culture, helping to build and activate solutions that make a real impact. Responsibilities

  • Partner on Culture Strategy Collaborate closely with the GM of Culture & Inclusion to co-develop and shape the overall culture strategy. Provide leadership in identifying cultural opportunities, challenges, and areas of growth.
  • Lead the Evolution of Culture Frameworks Own the continuous development, refinement, and evolution of culture frameworks that align with Microsoft's business goals and growth aspirations. Ensure that frameworks are scalable and adaptable to business needs across geographies and teams.
  • Integrate Systems Thinking into Culture Activation Apply systems thinking to ensure that culture and inclusion initiatives are integrated into all facets of the organization. Design and implement scalable solutions that drive sustained impact and measurable outcomes.
  • Shape and Activate Culture Solutions Lead the creation and deployment of tools, resources, and playbooks that activate culture across the organization. Work with the Culture & Inclusion team to ensure that all initiatives are actionable, scalable, and aligned with Microsoft’s strategic goals.
  • Apply Behavioral Science to Culture Activation Use behavioral science principles to shape how Microsoft’s culture is experienced by employees. Apply insights from psychology and behavioral economics to develop strategies that influence behaviors and create positive workplace dynamics.
  • Partner on Culture-Related Insights and Data Work closely with HR, business leaders, and the data & analytics team to track and measure the effectiveness of culture-related initiatives. Use data insights to refine and adjust culture strategies, ensuring alignment with Microsoft’s overall business and talent strategy.
  • Guide and Coach Teams on Culture Activation Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, teams, and HR, coaching them on how to integrate cultural values into their leadership and operational practices. Ensure that all levels of the organization are equipped to contribute to a thriving, inclusive culture.
  • Monitor and Report on Culture Impact Track and report on the impact of culture initiatives, providing clear, actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders. Use feedback loops to improve and evolve cultural strategies based on what’s working.
  • Create Adoption Tools and Resources Develop simple, practical tools and resources to help employees, teams, and leaders adopt and integrate cultural principles into their daily work. These tools will support leadership, team dynamics, and the employee experience, ensuring culture is actively lived.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field AND 8 years experience in human resources or Business; OR Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field AND 6 years experience in human resources or business; OR equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of experience in organizational development, change management or culture activation.
  • 3 years direct or indirect people management experience.

Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in systems thinking and its application to organizational culture and inclusion, and behavior change.
  • Deep understanding of OD principles, including culture diagnostics, behavior modeling, leadership alignment, and organizational change processes.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing scalable culture solutions that drive measurable impact, including experience with employee engagement and change management strategies.
  • Proven capability in data analysis and insights generation, with experience using both qualitative and quantitative methods to assess culture-related initiatives.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and advising on culture, leadership behaviors, and organizational development.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, with a focus on building alignment and driving strategic integration of culture and inclusion across business units.
  • Expertise in behavioral science and its practical application within an organizational context (e.g., leveraging behavioral insights to drive engagement, inclusion, and performance).
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas into clear, actionable insights for a wide range of audiences.
  • Advanced change management experience, with a focus on ensuring culture activation is integrated into leadership behaviors, decision-making, and organizational systems.

Diversity & Inclusion IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
