QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid teaching certificate issued by the South Dakota Department of Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (minimum requirement)
• Completion of Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training
• Prior teaching experience preferred
• Additional qualifications as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the school board

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To guide students in reaching their full potential intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially, supporting their overall growth and development.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students; maintain written lesson plans and follow district-approved curriculum
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests
• Establish clear instructional objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives effectively to students
• Utilize instructional methods and materials aligned with district philosophy and best practices to meet diverse student needs
• Support and enforce district policies and expectations regarding student behavior and conduct
• Plan and supervise meaningful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, when applicable
• Maintain standards of student behavior that foster a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment
• Assess student academic and social progress; maintain accurate records and provide regular progress reports
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and collaborate with school counselors regarding student progress and school programs
• Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and collaborate with staff to support student learning and well-being
• Promote respect for self, others, and property among students
• Participate in curriculum development and school or district-level initiatives to support continuous improvement
• Maintain professional competence through district-provided in-service training and independent professional development
• Participate in the evaluation process in accordance with district policy and the Lennox Education Association Master Contract
• Assist in the selection and maintenance of instructional materials, equipment, and resources; communicate needs to the building principal
• Supervise students during assigned duties outside the classroom, in accordance with contract guidelines
• Administer standardized assessments in alignment with district testing programs
• Participate in faculty committees and support student activities as assigned
• Perform additional duties as assigned by administration
