Job Summary:
The Swim Team Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Swim Coach in leading and developing a competitive and inclusive swim team program within the Park District, overseeing all aspects of practices, training plans, and competition preparation while fostering a positive and supportive environment for swimmers of all skill levels. This role ensures swimmer safety, enforces pool policies, and promotes good sportsmanship and teamwork. Additionally, the coach is responsible for creating a safe environment by teaching youth swimmers proper swimming techniques, conducting structured and concise daily practices, and leading athletes to compete at championship-level swim meets.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing structured swim training programs for all skill levels, emphasizing technique, endurance, and speed.
- Provide individualized feedback and skill instruction to enhance swimmer performance.
- Lead and co-facilitate daily practices, ensuring a safe and positive environment with a focus on proper swim techniques.
- Prepare athletes for competition by developing race strategies and fostering mental preparedness.
- Motivate swimmers during meets while promoting sportsmanship and team spirit.
- Monitor swimmer safety, enforce pool safety protocols, and maintain a secure pool environment.
- Ensure compliance with park district, league, and USA Swimming policies and procedures.
- Assist in meet operations, including timing system management and swim meet entry preparation.
- Work a set schedule for the full session and attend all mandatory training, including in-service, staff orientations, and crisis training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Have knowledge of water safety practices and usage of water safety equipment.
- Possess the ability to teach competitive swim lessons.
- Capacity to demonstrate proper swim techniques to participants from the water and on deck.
- Able to travel to and from swim meets and practices; must find a substitute if absent.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certified within 90 days of hire.
Work Environment:
The position requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and seeing; flexibility in work schedule which includes days, nights, and weekends; is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions which may include varying weather conditions, and is subject to chlorinated water.
