Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Support the Director of Accounting in managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including general ledger oversight and financial reporting processes
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and review of work performed by accounting staff
- Assist in developing and implementing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Act as a backup to the Director of Accounting as needed
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Coordinate close deliverables, perform analytical reviews, and ensure proper documentation of results
- Prepare and review financial statements and reporting packages in compliance with GAAP and MasTec corporate requirements
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting to MasTec
- Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external audit requests, including preparation of supporting documentation and coordination of responses
- Support the execution and documentation of internal controls, including SOX-related controls
- Assist in ensuring compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in audit walkthroughs and assist in addressing audit findings and remediation efforts
- Identify control gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvements and standardization
- Lead initiatives to enhance automation, reporting efficiency, and data accuracy across the accounting function
- Support the development and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures documentation
- Support coordination between the accounting team and cross‑functional stakeholders (e.g., MasTec corporate accounting, FP&A, IT, compliance, internal audit, etc.) and other departments to support company-wide initiatives
- Coordinate deliverables to MasTec and ensure alignment with corporate reporting requirements
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes through financial analysis and historical data insights
- Participate in special projects, system implementations, and corporate initiatives related to accounting, reporting, and compliance
- Support accounting leadership in strengthening governance over financial reporting and ensuring adherence to corporate policies and regulatory requirements
- Assist with ad-hoc analyses and strategic decision-making initiatives
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience
- 5 years of experience within a public company and/or audit-focused environment
- Experience specifically in Construction accounting and/or reporting
- Experience in an Accounting Leadership role
- Experience in financial reporting, audit, and internal controls environments
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or relevant field
- CPA or Chartered Accountant license
- Prior Big 4 public accounting experience
- Familiarity with Oracle and/or Viewpoint Vista
- Exposure to construction or other project‑driven operating environments
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Deep understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance
- Leadership, coaching, and team development skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
