Classified Job Description-After School Program Coordinator

Reports to: Superintendent or Designee

Summary: 

Under the direction of Superintendent/Designee, assists in development and implementation of student learning activities and experiences during and after school, provides, academic support services and student supervision.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and provide tutoring and/or homework assistance in one or more of the following subject areas: language arts, mathematics, science, history, social science. 

  • Coordinate the education enrichment program that may include, but is not limited to fine arts, career technical education, recreation, physical fitness and prevention activities, recreation, technology, career awareness, and activities to support positive youth development. 

  • Develop and nurture a program that provides a safe physical and emotional environment and opportunities for relations building that promotes student engagement. 

  • Coordinate with the Cafeteria Coordinator the provision of a daily snack that conforms to the nutritional standards within California Education Code. 

  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with staff and parent/community members. 

  • Participate in required meetings and attend associated trainings. 

  • Conduct all necessary communication including notices to parents, reports, statements and attendance records as required by the program. 

  • Keep accurate program attendance records and report actual attendance to District Office as requested. 

  • Coordinate services of After School Program staff including scheduling, ordering supplies, planning fieldtrips, and other types of activities.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, techniques and equipment used in preparing and cooking foods in large quantities.

  • K-12 education systems and sites.

  • Techniques and methods of student supervision and behavior management. 

  • Cultural and physical differences and needs of children in assigned activities. 

  • Basic computer and technology applications.



Ability to:

  • Effectively work with students of differing ages, abilities, and backgrounds. 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with program and school personnel. 

  • Learn basic first aid and safety requirements. 

  • Communicate effectively in oral and written expressions. 

  • Physically perform job tasks. 

  • Follow directions and function within program and school policies and procedures. 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from high school

  • Experience required in development and implementation of children/youth programs and activities.

  • Two years of higher education, or

  • Associate’s or higher degree, or

  • Pass a formal equivalency test demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.

  • CPR/First Aide

 

Physical Ability Required:

  • Sufficient mobility to interact successfully with students.
