Classified Job Description-Transportation Coordinator
Reports to: Superintendent or Designee
Summary:
Under the direction of the Superintendent or Designee, the Transportation Coordinator directs the day-to-day operations of the District’s Transportation Department. The Transportation Coordinator directs and supervises the operation of the District vehicles, including performing safety checks, scheduling maintenance and service, scheduling routes and usage, and supervising vehicle drivers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise the day-to-day activities of the District’s transportation operations and assigned personnel for the purpose of prioritizing operational activities and project deadlines, and ensuring optimal utilization of personnel, vehicles, and equipment.

Plans and coordinates the scheduling and routing of student transportation.

Plans bus routes and schedules drivers to routes and buses.

Coordinates with Superintendent or designee regarding changes in transportation needs.

Assists the Superintendent or designee in assessing incidents, disputes, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation to the situation.

Assists drivers in completing injury and accident reports.

Assists in coordination of the mandated random drug-testing program for the District.

Assists bus drivers in maintaining orderly school bus environment and assures student discipline is implemented as necessary.

Advises on hazards from inclement weather and road closures and assists the superintendent or designee on determining and directing any operation changes needed to adjust to varying and unforeseen situations as they occur.

Creates databases, uses spreadsheets and other computer applications.

Safe driving practices, including safely operating a school bus including during an emergency evacuation.

Provides for servicing of vehicles.

Fueling and cleaning of District vehicles.

Prepares necessary reports, safety plans, and associated paperwork.

Work independently with little direction.

Meet schedules and timelines with many interruptions.

Refers students to health services as appropriate.

Coordinate CHP inspections.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:

Education equivalent to high school graduation.

Three to five years’ experience or equivalent formal training (bus driver, automotive repair, mechanical training).

Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with students and staff as part of a team.

Possess and maintain a Class B, or higher, California Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and school bus certification with air brake endorsement.

Current Medical Certificate.

Bus Driver Certificate and Endorsement from California Highway Patrol.
Physical Ability Required:

Ability to stand continuously for periods of up to two hours.

Ability to bend, stoop, and move quickly when necessary.

Lift weights up to twenty pounds.
