Legal Prep is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven 6th Grade Civics & Science Teacher to join our founding faculty. This teacher will provide instruction in both 6th Grade Civics and 6th Grade Science, teaching two sections of each course while helping students successfully transition into middle school.

This unique role is ideal for an educator who enjoys making connections across disciplines and helping students understand both the natural world and their role as informed, engaged citizens. The successful candidate will create engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and civic responsibility.


As a founding faculty member, this teacher will help establish the academic culture and instructional expectations that will define Legal Prep's middle school program for years to come.


ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum
  • Teach two sections of 6th Grade Civics and two sections of 6th Grade Science.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that promote inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking.
  • Utilize hands-on learning experiences, laboratory investigations, simulations, discussions, and project-based learning to actively engage students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and promote interdisciplinary learning.
Advisory & Student Support
  • Serve as an advisory teacher for a cohort of students.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families.
  • Support students' academic, social-emotional, and personal growth.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
Culture & Founding Responsibilities
  • Uphold Legal Prep's culture of high expectations and restorative practices.
  • Implement consistent classroom management systems aligned with schoolwide expectations.
  • Participate in professional development, collaborative planning, and data meetings.
  • Support student recruitment, family engagement events, and other founding school initiatives.
  • Contribute to building a positive and engaging middle school culture.


QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid Indiana teaching license (or ability to obtain one prior to the start of employment).
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to teach both middle school science and civics content effectively.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching middle school science, social studies, civics, or interdisciplinary coursework.
  • Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, or experiential learning.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
