National Account Manager - Job Description

Legacy Steel is a leading provider of prefabricated steel platforms and mezzanines, serving a wide range of industries across North America. We work closely with material handling dealers, integrators, OEMs, and end users to deliver high-quality, engineered structures that support safe, efficient, and scalable operations.

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated National Account Manager with strong experience in material handling and a proven track record of prospecting, hunting, and new business development. This individual will be responsible for driving revenue growth through a combination of strategic account management, relationship development, and aggressive new business acquisition.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys being in front of customers, is comfortable making cold calls and opening new doors, and has the ability to quickly learn and sell engineered solutions in a technical environment.


Experience selling mezzanines, steel platforms, material handling equipment, warehouse automation solutions, or working with systems integrators is highly desirable but not required.**

This role requires extensive travel, approximately 75% to support customer relationships, project opportunities, and business development efforts.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a territory growth strategy focused on both existing accounts and new customer acquisition.
  • Proactively identify, prospect, and secure new business opportunities within the material handling, automation, warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, and industrial markets.
  • Build relationships with systems integrators, OEMs, distributors, consultants, and end users.
  • Conduct onsite customer visits, facility walkthroughs, and solution discussions to identify opportunities and develop tailored recommendations.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation to closing.
  • Collaborate with internal estimating, engineering, and project management teams to prepare proposals and ensure seamless handoff.
  • Attend customer meetings, project deliveries and trade shows (travel ~75%).
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, and opportunity tracking.
  • Consistently meet or exceed sales targets and performance expectations.


Qualifications

  • Proven success in prospecting/hunting roles and developing new business.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time, including overnight.
  • Strong technical aptitude: ability to understand structural/mezzanine or engineered product requirements is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently.
  • 3–5 years of experience in material handling, industrial equipment, automation, or related industries (preferred but not required).
