Responsibilities
- Assist with the loading and unloading of garbage, recyclables, and other waste materials using front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, roll-off trucks, or other specialized equipment
- Support drivers in maneuvering heavy loads safely during route driving and delivery tasks
- Follow all safety protocols, including hazard materials regulations and air brake procedures, to ensure a secure work environment
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of trucks and work sites, adhering to solid waste management standards
- Load and unload waste containers efficiently while practicing proper manual lifting techniques to prevent injury
- Assist in route driving activities under supervision, ensuring timely collection while complying with traffic laws and DOT regulations
- Support the team in maintaining accurate logs of pickups, deliveries, and safety inspections
Skills
- Experience operating front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, roll-off trucks, or similar commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of heavy lifting techniques and mechanical systems related to garbage trucks and front-end loaders
- Strong understanding of traffic laws, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, state transportation laws, and hazardous materials regulations
- Proven ability to drive manual transmission vehicles safely over routes in various outdoor conditions
- Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with residents and clients during pickups
- Ability to adhere strictly to safety protocols, including air brake operation and hazardous materials handling when necessary
- Previous experience in outdoor work environments involving solid waste management or municipal waste collection is preferred
