The Fraud Investigator will work within the Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Program to assist with generating new investigations, continuing ongoing investigations, and supporting civil actions involving fraud in areas such as healthcare, contracting, grants, and other misuse or abuse of federal funds and programs.

The ACE Program works to recover taxpayer funds wrongfully obtained through fraud and abuse and helps bridge the gap between criminal prosecution and administrative enforcement actions. Cases may originate from qui tam filings, referrals from investigative agencies or healthcare intermediaries, internal investigations, or referrals from criminal AUSAs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and conducting highly complex investigations and performing quantitative, qualitative, and other relevant analyses.
  • Work with federal and state agencies involved in federally funded programs, healthcare programs, and investigations of fraud and abuse.
  • Develop and analyze evidence obtained from investigators and law enforcement personnel.
  • Gather information from appropriate primary and secondary sources relating to evidence and legal matters.
  • Analyze information to identify patterns of operation, clarify potential suspects or organizations, and identify relevant information to support legal matters.
  • Gather and analyze statements, timelines, scientific or technical data, and other facts to advance prosecutorial objectives.
  • Establish and verify relationships among facts and evidence, confirm document authenticity, corroborate witness statements, and support successful litigation.
  • Provide specialized investigative analysis involving healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, agriculture fraud, and fraud related to other federal programs.
  • Conduct asset investigations, verify employment, and perform financial analyses to determine a target's ability to pay monetary penalties.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Statistical/Data Analysis, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or higher.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience planning and conducting complex civil investigations involving the misuse of public, private, or insurance funds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain adjudication for the required background investigation.
