About the position:
The Catering and Cafe Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing high-quality food service for catered events as well as the cafe. This role requires strong culinary expertise, creativity, and the ability to manage food production efficiently in both on-site and off-site environments. This position is located at the Wenatchee Valley College Cafeteria. In addition to your culinary expertise, you will help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen. This role requires strong leadership, technical skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in a high-volume kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have both a la carte and catering experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes according to recipes, ensuring consistency and presentation for both a la carte service and catering.
- Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and plating to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee all aspects of food preparation for events, including prep, cooking, plating, and service coordination.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior line cooks and kitchen staff, helping them develop their skills and grow professionally.
- Work closely with the other team members to ensure smooth operations and the efficient flow of the kitchen.
- Assist in managing inventory, checking stock levels, and ensuring that the kitchen has the necessary supplies for daily operations.
- Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are strictly followed at all times.
- Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean, organized, and in compliance with health and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience as a catering cook, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role. Institutional cooking and catering experience highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen equipment.
- Proven ability to lead a team, manage multiple tasks, and remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to train and develop junior kitchen staff.
- Passion for cooking, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Certifications:
- Food Handlers Certification, ServSafe Certification or equivalent required.
General Operating Hours:
- Monday - Friday: 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
