Position Summary
Leffel, Otis & Warwick, P.S. is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper & Payroll Specialist to join our team in our Davenport office. This is an in-person position responsible for providing bookkeeping, payroll, and client support services to a variety of businesses and individuals.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with clients, has strong communication skills, takes pride in delivering accurate work, and is committed to building trusted professional relationships. This role requires a balance of technical accounting knowledge, payroll expertise, and exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate monthly financial records for clients
- Record and classify financial transactions
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, loan statements, and general ledger accounts
- Review financial data for completeness and accuracy
- Prepare year-end financial reports and supporting schedules
- Assist clients with bookkeeping questions and software support
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting requirements
Payroll
- Process payroll accurately and timely
- Calculate wages, overtime, deductions, garnishments, and benefit withholdings
- Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll reports
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Manage employee benefit deductions and payroll-related records
- Respond to payroll-related questions from clients and employees
- Assist with payroll reporting requirements in multiple states, including Idaho
Client Service
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned bookkeeping and payroll clients
- Communicate regularly with clients regarding financial records, payroll matters, deadlines, and information requests
- Educate and assist clients with bookkeeping and payroll processes, software, and best practices
- Follow up with clients to obtain missing information and ensure timely completion of services
- Build trusted relationships with clients through responsive, professional, and accurate communication
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide outstanding service
Qualifications
- Bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll certification preferred, or a minimum of one year of related experience
- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and Accounting CS preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive client relationships
- Comfortable working directly with clients and providing exceptional customer service
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, coworkers, and management
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of payroll regulations and tax requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; Adobe Acrobat experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends during the busy season (January through March)
- Agriculture industry knowledge is a plus
- Positive attitude and strong team-oriented mindset
