What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician, Senior Instrumentation position at Lee County Government?
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Instrumentation Technician Senior to join the Lee County Utilities team. This position involves advanced technical work in the design, installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation equipment used throughout our water and wastewater systems.
Under general direction from the Instrumentation Superintendent, you’ll perform hands-on troubleshooting and repairs, ensure compliance through accurate calibration reporting, and support operational staff with technical expertise and training. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Install, maintain, and calibrate a wide range of instrumentation and control equipment used in water and wastewater systems.
- Monitor and perform calibrations for Lee County Utilities systems to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation malfunctions; determine and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed calibration reports, logs, and daily activity summaries.
- Collaborate with operations staff to meet all regulatory and compliance requirements related to calibration and reporting.
- Provide training and technical support to operations personnel on instrumentation systems and best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in general electronics, instrumentation, water systems, wastewater systems, or a related field.
- Possession of a valid Florida Class E driver’s license (or equivalent) with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- College coursework or technical school training in water and wastewater instrumentation, electronics, or related technology.
- Experience with instrumentation calibration software and methods, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices related to instrumentation and control systems.
Work Schedule
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- On-Call: Required participation in emergency on-call rotations, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
