What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician I position at Lee County Government?
- Perform regular maintenance on transit vehicles, including inspections, changing fluids and filters, lubricating parts, and rotating tires.
- Check steering, suspension, and brake systems to make sure they are working safely.
- Replace basic parts like belts, hoses, batteries, alternators, starters, water pumps, and cooling system parts.
- Use diagnostic tools to read fault codes and perform simple electrical tests.
- Help senior technicians find and fix problems with engines, transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC, and multiplex systems.
- Fill out work orders correctly, including labor time, parts used, and repairs done.
- Report any other problems or needed repairs to a supervisor.
- Understand basic gasoline and diesel engine functions, air brake systems, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- One (1) year of hands-on automotive, diesel, or fleet maintenance experience
Licensing
- Have a valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction, OR
- Have a CDL Permit with Passenger Endorsement before hire
- Must get a Florida Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement within 30 days of hire (training and testing provided onsite)
Safety-Sensitive Position:
- This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and 655.
