Position Summary:
Johnston Contracting Inc. is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Construction Interns to support field operations and project management teams. This role offers exposure to active job sites and provides valuable experience in civil construction practices, safety procedures, scheduling, estimating, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist field supervisors and project managers with daily construction activities
- Observe and participate in excavation and underground utility operations
- Support site remediation efforts and environmental compliance activities
- Assist the estimating team with quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
- Help compile subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Support preparation of bid packages and proposals
- Help track quantities, production rates, and material deliveries
- Assist with basic surveying, layout, and field measurements
- Prepare daily reports, photos, and documentation
- Support safety meetings and ensure compliance with company safety policies
- Review drawings and specifications under supervision
- Assist with scheduling updates and coordination with subcontractors and suppliers
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project success
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field (preferred)
- Strong interest in heavy civil construction and field operations
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office preferred)
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
