The On-Site Director/Lead Preschool Teacher oversees the daily operations of the childcare program while serving as the lead teacher in the classroom. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for children, supports families and staff, and maintains compliance with all licensing and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Management
- Oversee daily center operations and serve as the administrator on the childcare license.
- Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations and quality standards (Step Up to Quality/Kentucky All STARS).
- Support enrollment, family engagement, and program success.
- Hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate teaching staff.
- Coordinate staff meetings, training, and professional development.
- Maintain classroom supplies, equipment, and program resources.
Operations & Compliance
- Manage program requirements including food program participation, funding sources, vouchers, and parent accounts.
- Assist with budgeting and financial oversight.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, confidentiality, ADA, child protection, and employment regulations.
Classroom Leadership
- Lead a preschool classroom using developmentally appropriate practices.
- Create engaging lesson plans aligned with Ohio and/or Kentucky Early Learning Standards.
- Foster children's intellectual, social-emotional, physical, and language development.
- Conduct child observations and assessments to support individual learning goals.
- Promote positive behavior guidance and maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Experience working with young children in a licensed childcare setting.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
- Successful completion of required background checks, TB screening, and state-required childcare orientation.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in a classroom serving children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. The role requires standing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
