At the LEARN Transition Academy, we believe every young adult deserves the opportunity to live, work, learn, and participate as independently as possible in their community. Our community-based transition program serves students ages 18-22, providing individualized instruction focused on employment readiness, independent living, self-advocacy, communication, social relationships, and participation in community life.

We are seeking compassionate, energetic, and dedicated Intervention Specialists to join our team. This is an opportunity to help young adults gain the skills, confidence, and experiences they need to succeed in work, recreation, relationships, and independent living.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

As an Intervention Specialist, you will support young adults across school, employment, and community environments while helping them develop the skills necessary for greater independence and adult success.

You Will

• Support students in community-based instruction, work experiences, volunteer placements, and vocational training sites.
• Assist students in developing independent living skills such as cooking, shopping, budgeting, personal organization, and community navigation.
• Support the development of employment skills including communication, workplace behavior, task completion, problem solving, and time management.
• Implement individualized transition goals aligned to students' IEPs and post-secondary outcomes.
• Teach and reinforce self-advocacy, self-determination, and decision-making skills.
• Facilitate social skill development, relationship building, and participation in community and recreational activities.
• Support students in using public transportation, community resources, and other systems that promote independence.
• Utilize evidence-based practices to support learning, communication, behavioral success, and skill generalization across settings.
• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports as needed.
• Collect and monitor student data to inform instructional decision making and goal progress.
• Support students in the use of assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, employment specialists, therapists, families, adult service agencies, and community partners.
• Help create safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environments that promote dignity, belonging, and high expectations.
• Support student health, safety, mobility, and personal care needs when required.
• Utilize approved de-escalation and crisis intervention procedures following completion of required training.
• Participate in ongoing professional learning and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree, completion of at least 60 college credits, or Bachelor's Degree; or a High School Diploma and successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment.
• Experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, transition-age youth, or related populations preferred.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical practice.
• Ability to travel within the community and participate in community-based programming activities.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to actively support students across school, workplace, recreation, and community environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
• Ability to complete and maintain required competency-based training, including approved crisis intervention procedures.
• Ability to support students with physical management and personal care needs when required.
• Ability to accompany students safely in community settings and during transportation activities.
