Position: Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Lexington, KY
Job Type: On-site
Reports to: Mechanical Supervisor
Department: North American Operations
Position Purpose: Senior Controls Engineers at Leadec ES, Inc. are part of the Controls and Automation division. This division is responsible for the complete design and integration of control systems into customer processes. This includes electrical panel design, hardware specifications, power distribution, PLC and HMI programming as well as system commissioning and production support. This position provides the opportunity to learn new skills and to work in a challenging and fast paced environment.
Controls engineers are involved in many different projects at Leadec ES, Inc. including, but not limited to:
- Automotive conveyor systems
- Paint Shop and Body Shop application robot integration
- Mining and Steel Processes
- Roofing Product lines
- Food and Beverage
Leadec ES, Inc. expects Senior Controls Engineers to be resourceful, proactive and highly motivated workers with excellent communication skills. They are expected to be organized and efficient while working independently on projects of any scope of any size while managing the controls portion of projects and supervising junior engineers. This includes using their own discretion to make independent judgments and choices with respect to project specific matters such as ordering materials and interfacing with customers. The applicant must be capable of using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate possible courses of action and make independent decisions on behalf of management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Electrical Schematics
- Hardware Procurement
- System Safety:
- Developing safety concept
- Ensure all safety objectives and legal requirements are met
- Hardware setup and configuration:
- Initial power up
- Verification of panel and field voltages
- Verification of networking and communication buses.
- Verify safety concepts
- PLC Programming and commissioning:
- Toyopuc (preferred)
- ControlLogix
- Siemens
- Omron
- Drive Programming and commissioning:
- Mitsubishi, SEW, SINAMICS, PowerFlex, Yaskawa, Robicon, Lenze
- HMI Programming and commissioning:
- WinCC, FactoryTalk, Wonderware
- Interface with other Controls Engineers on project related tasks:
- Progress Reports
- Schedule Updates
- Support sales team with technical concepts and budgets as well as independently estimate and sell controls projects.
- Interpret clients' requirements and identify engineering solutions.
- Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively.
- All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.

Position Qualifications:
- S. degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar) from a recognized and accredited institution.
- 5 years' experience with industrial control systems.
- 10 years' experience in industrial controls will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and complete a background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
- Experience with PLC / HMI.
- Experience with AutoCAD or EPLAN.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products -- Word, Excel, Project, Visio, etc.
- Experience with multiple control platforms:
- Toyopuc (required)
- ControlLogix
- Siemens S7
- Omron NJ series controllers
- HMI Programming Experience:
- Wonderware
- WinCC, WinCC Flexible
- FactoryTalk View
- Interface with the Electrical Division to ensure successful flow of information from Controls group to electrical group.
- Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems.
- Mix of office environment and location at various job sites.
- Travel to job sites as required.
- Weekend work required.
- Balance multiple projects.

- Required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low). Frequently required to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for 4 -12 hours. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; stoop, or crouch.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and focus adjustment.
- Work is performed in an office environment with significant time spent working on a computer or at a desk.
