Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Unit Director to lead the planning, execution, and operational performance of a major concrete construction business unit.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving safety, operational excellence, financial performance, business development, and talent development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial and industrial concrete construction and a proven ability to lead multiple teams and projects successfully.
The Business Unit Director will be responsible for ensuring a strong pipeline of work, developing customer and industry relationships, maintaining high operational standards, and building a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Business Unit Planning & Performance
- Develop and execute annual financial, operational, and talent plans.
- Establish performance goals and ensure the business unit consistently achieves targeted results.
- Monitor financial performance, project profitability, productivity, and overall operational health.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
Market & Business Development
- Maintain a strong understanding of the local construction market.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and industry partners.
- Identify and pursue strategic project opportunities aligned with company capabilities.
- Represent the organization professionally within the construction and business community.
Project & Operational Excellence
- Evaluate and secure work based on project requirements, team capabilities, and available resources.
- Provide leadership and oversight throughout project execution.
- Establish and enforce expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and operational excellence.
- Ensure projects are properly staffed and supported to meet schedule, budget, and customer expectations.
- Provide guidance and leadership to project and field management teams.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing employees.
- Establish a strong leadership culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Identify future leaders and create opportunities for professional development.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent military experience.
- 15 years of construction industry experience, including significant project and team leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience managing commercial and/or industrial concrete construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing projects valued at $1 million or more.
- Strong understanding of construction operations, project financials, scheduling, and resource management.
- Proven ability to lead multiple teams and manage competing priorities.
- Strong business development and customer relationship skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to develop and execute organizational strategies that drive growth and operational excellence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Salary : $180,000 - $220,000
